The 2019 Theo Murphy Australian Frontiers of Science – Redefining Healthy Ageing Together symposium will bring together early- and mid-career researchers (EMCRs) from across Australia working to create better pathways to healthy ageing.

As part of the event, Flinders University and Southern CrossCare, are supporting three prizes of $500 each one, to be awarded to the best presenters of their category: oral, rapid-fire, and poster presentation.

Events supported by the Theo Murphy (Australia) Fund follow the same guidelines as all Australian Academy of Science events. Academy events support and promote diversity, equity of participation, intellectual freedom and excellence. As a condition of participating in the competition, participants accept the terms and conditions in the guidelines.

Selection Criteria

The selection criteria for posters and oral presentations shall include how well author describes the:

  • Importance of the research question/project aims
  • Research design and methodology
  • Results or findings support the research question and conclusions are sound
  • Overall communication – The presentation is clear, concise and engaging

The selection criteria for rapid-fire presentations shall include:

  • Overview of the research within the 4-minute time frame
  • Clear description of research question and findings
  • Overall communication - The presentation is clear, concise and engaging

Please note, the judges’ decision is final and correspondence will not be entered into.

Reporting and payment schedule

Funds can be used to finance activities or resources that directly support the proposed project or the professional development of the awardee.

Funds will be transferred to the nominated bank account of the Awardee. The Awardee is responsible for delivering a final statement, a few sentences stating how the funds have been used to support the Awardee. The statement is due 30 September 2019 and is to be submitted to emcr@science.org.au
